"Living in the Moment"

Updated: Jan 4, 2022

On January 2016 I was guest on Chef Quick Tips TV series presented by Miss Ali Warshavski, which was aired in the Norwalk studio of News 12 Connecticut LLC, a prominent group of regional cable news television channels in the New York metropolitan area, owned by Altice USA. Since 2006 I have been guest on and off on Channel 12 (as I call it to abbreviate its name) to introduce Italian food and share a few tips on how to prepare it. Each footage was improvised, never rehearsed and I was grateful to the amazing presenters of the show not only for their professionalism and friendliness, but for making me feel at ease during the production.

What you don't know is that at the time of the recording of this series of 5 TV culinary segments in January 2016, I was still recovering from a long and serious illness; in fact, I had been discharged from the hospital only a day or so earlier. When I got the call from the TV show producer that day, part of me was holding me back. Still ailing, I thought that passing the opportunity and declining the invite to appear on the show seemed an obvious thing to do. Then I realized that it was my choice to make between self-pity and the large audience of loyal food lovers looking forward to watching Chef Quick Tips. "Live in the moment!" I said to myself hoping no one would notice the signs of my frail health on my face brushed up with a few strokes of makeup and the feeble sound of my voice... . I am glad I did.

A few days ago and six years later, I have watched the footage of a couple of those segments and, as I welcomed 2022, I felt that it would be a good idea to share them with you now that the festivities are over (not for Italians, who still are in a celebratory mode for the arrival of La Befana on January 6th). Perhaps they will be a motivating force on how to drop those extra pounds gained during the holiday season and to enjoy food that will not make us feel guilty, but refreshed and determined to start anew. So, this is my resolution for the new year: Eat well. Stay healthy. Live in the moment.
